Lebanon Mountain Trail Project
Trots krig och elände går livet vidare, bl.a. ska man staka ut en trail uppe i bergen, som jag tror kommer att bli nånting extra att vandra längs.
Situated between Tannourine and Qartaba, Aaqoura lies next to Laqlouq, which was pioneered as a playground for galavanting snow bunnies in the early 1960s. There remains a functional ski resort in Laqlouq, but it has been largely overshadowed by the more glamorous facilities at Faraya and Faqra. Driving through town one catches sight of a billboard bearing witness to Laqlouq's faded potential - a vintage advertisement proposes two villa complexes called Nirvana and Shangri-La, each represented in a font rendered hopelessly retro by the passing decades. Still, Laqlouq gets its roads tended to during the winter, while neighboring Aaqoura is left to its own devices.

Dom har gått igenom så mycket under åren och reser sig alltid och förhoppningsvis ändras mentaliteten efter varje resning. Det fanns en artikel tidigare om ungdomar, som hjälper till frivilligt med återuppbyggnaden i södra Libanon. I början hhade dom haft problem med sekterismen, men kommit över det stadiet och hjälpte kristna som muslimer, utan att bry sig om vilken sekt dom tillhör. Ett gott tecken tycker jag. The Chouf reserve covers 162 square kilometers of land, from Dahr al-Baidar in the north to Mount Niha in the south. It is one of the oldest documented forests in history, housing a quarter of what remains of Lebanon's famed cedar tree population. It is home to some 200 bird species, 400 plant species and 32 species of wild mammals, 12 of which, including rare wolves and chameleons, are endangered on a global scale.

För er som är intresserade av bergsklättring kan Tannourine vara intressant att besöka. Jag och grabbarna var där uppe för ett par veckor sen och fotade vid det mest kända av dom "sinkholes" som finns där. Det djupaste är drygt 600 m. Se artikel om Tannourine.
